Museo de la Historia de Ponce
Museo de la Historia de Ponce (History Museum of Ponce) is located at the corner of Isabel and Mayor in downtown Ponce, Puerto Rico. It is about one block away from the main city square of Plaza de las Delicias, which is where Parque de Bombas is located. The museum is housed in two old houses; the Salazar House (Casa Salazar) and Zapater House (Casa Zapater) which date back to the early 1900's. The museum was opened in 1992 and contains ten galleries. In addition to the galleries, the museum also houses a gift shop, a cafe, a library, and some administrative offices.
Exhibits include everything from the clothing and artifacts from the early Taino Indians to the later Spanish explorers all the way to the present day. The exhibits are mostly labeled in Spanish, however tours are available which are presented in both English and Spanish.
Museo de la Historia de Ponce is open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays. It is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm and entry to the museum is free of charge. Call ahead for operating hours and additional museum information at 787-844-7071 or 787-844-7042.
